About Sky Pilot

Sky Pilot is a flight simulator built around the first thing every pilot learns: the circuit. You start lined up on runway 36 of a country airfield, with a control tower and hangars by the apron, patchwork farmland stretching to distant hills and two small towns for landmarks. The aeroplane is a light high-wing trainer, and it flies on a real aerodynamic model: the wing's lift comes from its angle of attack and stalls when pushed too far, drag rises as you pull harder, the propeller's thrust fades with speed, and banking turns the aeroplane at the rate the lift allows. You take off, fly through the rings that mark the upwind, crosswind, downwind and base legs, turn onto final, and land: on the runway, gently, with the wings level, then brake to a stop. Instruments show your airspeed in knots, altitude in feet, climb or sink rate, heading and an artificial horizon, and an arrow points to the next ring. Harder levels add more and smaller rings and a gusty crosswind that pushes you off the centreline, so you learn to crab into the wind. Every landing is graded by how softly you touched down and how close to the centreline and the touchdown zone you put it. A soft landing in the zone on the centreline earns three stars.

How to Play Sky Pilot

  1. 1Open the throttle (Shift, E or drag the lever up) and roll down the runway. Steer with A/D to stay on the centreline.
  2. 2At about 55 knots pull back gently (S or ↓, or pull the stick down) and the aeroplane lifts off. The elevator sets how hard the wing works: pull and the nose rises; let go and it settles back.
  3. 3Bank to turn (A/D or ←/→): the more you bank, the tighter the turn, and you need a little back pressure to hold your height in a turn.
  4. 4Fly through the yellow ring, then the next, around the circuit. The arrow at the top shows where the next ring is and whether to climb or descend.
  5. 5Too slow or pulling too hard stalls the wing: the STALL warning sounds and the aeroplane sinks. Lower the nose and add power to recover.
  6. 6After the last ring, line up with runway 36 and come down at about 65 knots. Reduce power, and just above the runway pull back gently to flare so you touch down softly with the wings level. Then hold B or Space to brake to a stop on the runway.
  7. 7Touching down hard, wing-first, off the runway, or running off its end ends the flight. C changes the camera (chase, cockpit, wide).
